Real Madrid president celebrates Ronaldo success

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was delighted that Ronaldo inspired his team to yesterday's title-deciding victory over Athletic Bilbao.

Perez has taken flak for the way he handled Ronaldo's controversial move from Inter Milan last year.

But his decision was fully vindicated last night as the Brazilian struck twice to help Real lift the second Liga championship during Perez's reign as president.

The Real supremo said, "Ronaldo is the best centre-forward in the world. He has proven that even when commentators are discussing whether he is fat or not!"

Perez also said, "Real Sociedad have been a worthy rival and for all their efforts they deserved to win the title this season. But so did we and unfortunately there can be only one victor."

"It has been a good season. I am satisfied. We suffered in Turin, but we must remember that today's achievement has brought great pleasure to a million Madrid fans around the world."
