Real Madrid president Calderon: I wanted Schuster

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon admits his first-choice for coach was Getafe's Bernd Schuster.

"I cannot deny it," said Calderon. "He's a young coach with the approach of a very attractive style of football."

"But Pedja Mijatovic said we needed a 'surgeon' at the height of his powers who could solve the squad's problems in a very short space of time."

"We needed somebody like Fabio Capello and for that reason I accepted Mijatovic's proposal over what I had thought. It wasn't advisable to bring in a coach who needed time to make a successful project in the medium or long-term. We had great urgency."
