Real Madrid president approached Everton for Rooney

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has made tentative enquiries with Everton for striker Wayne Rooney.

With Real's presidential elections set for today, if Perez wins he is expected to follow up the initial enquiry with a firm approach for the 18 year-old.

Rooney's agents have already made the player aware of Real's interest and Marca says the striker is delighted with the prospect of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Everton did not reject Real's interest and are prepared to listen to what the Spanish giants have to offer.
