Real Madrid are close to agreeing a major new deal that will see Emirates replace Bwin as the club’s shirt sponsor, according to reports in the Spanish press, reports SportBusiness.
The Liga giant has reportedly sealed a five-year deal with the Dubai-based airline that will be worth a basic Eur22 million to the club. The agreement would be amongst the most lucrative shirt sponsorship deals in world football and include an incentives-based clause that could be worth up to an additional Eur3 million a season to Real.
Although the deal has not yet been officially signed, Marca reports that a contract is close to being agreed that would take effect from July 2013.
However, the conclusion of a deal would still see Real ranked only third in world football’s most lucrative shirt sponsorship deals. Bitter rival FC Barcelona’s five-year deal with the Qatar Foundation is reportedly worth Eur30 million a year, while Manchester United’s four-year agreement with the Aon Corporation is valued at £20 million (Eur24 million) per year.
