Real Madrid plan to trump Chelsea for Samuel

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is planning to trump Chelsea for AS Roma defender Walter Samuel.

Perez is ready to break with transfer policy and spend big to reinforce Real's defence next season, with Samuel being the first name on his shortlist.

Chelsea are prepared to pay big for the Argentine, but Perez will use his trump card, Fernando Morientes, to beat his London rivals.

Real are set to offer Roma the 12-month loan of striker Morientes, plus £12 million for Samuel.
