Real Madrid plan opening bid for Man Utd's Ronaldo

Real Madrid chiefs Pedja Mijatovic and Juan Sanchez are preparing to travel to England to make a formal bid for Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Marca says Real intend to make an opening offer of £40 million plus winger Robinho for Ronaldo, which falls well short of United's valuation of the superstar.

Indeed, with Real insiders admitting the capture of Ronaldo could be worth up to £500 million to the club, United are likely to give Mijatovic's offer short shrift.
