Real Madrid on verge of deal for River Plate star Diogo

Real Madrid are locked in talks with River Plate for midfielder Carlos Diogo.
 
The Uruguay international has been followed for some months by Juventus, but Real have opened formal negotiations with River and are confident of a deal soon being struck.

Diogo comes off contract in July and his registration is owned by South American super agent Paco Casal. Casal also handles Pablo Garcia, the Osasuna midfielder who is set to join Real Madrid at the end of the month.

Both players are part of Uruguay's World Cup qualifying squad and Real Madrid's interest is no secret amongst the players. One senior player remarked last week: "Finally, Real Madrid are putting a serious team together!"
