Real Madrid offered Gravesen to Newcastle

Real Madrid have contacted Newcastle United about the availability of midfielder Thomas Gravesen.
 
The Evening Chronicle says Real Madrid are ready to offer Newcastle their Danish midfielder - as long as Albert Luque goes in the opposite direction.

United were interested in Gravesen when he with Everton, but after the 29-year-old Danish international opted for Real Madrid he now finds himself really out of favour at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Real rate him in the £2.5m bracket which is way short of what United paid Deportivo La Coruna for the 27-year-old Luque.

Toon chairman Freddy Shepherd said: "I have heard about this supposed interest in Albert Luque from Real Madrid and Barcelona but nobody has contacted us."

"But we do know that Luque is highly regarded by the all the top teams in Spain where he is rated as one of the top six players in the country."

"However, I can categorically say that Newcastle United have absolutely no interest in letting Albert Luque go to Spain."

"Why would we want to sell a player only a couple of months after signing him and when he has only played three or four games for us?"
