Real Madrid offer Beckham deal for life

Real Madrid want midfielder David Beckham to end his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Telegraph says Real have offered Beckham a two-year contract extension, which would keep him in Madrid until 2009.

With more than two years of his original deal, which lasts until 2007, left to run, Beckham now looks set to outlast Luis Figo, his arch-rival for the right-wing spot whose contract expires in the summer of 2006.

The former Portugal captain has hinted that he will leave next year if contract talks do not start before Christmas.

Beckham is unlikely to be offered any more money than the standard wage earned by the club's so-called group of galacticos - Figo, Ronaldo, Raul and Roberto Carlos - who pocket an incredible £116,000 a week.

But when even Manchester United players are finding themselves placed on performance-related contracts, an offer like Real's would be hard to turn down.
