Real Madrid must cough up to Schuster if Capello stays

Real Madrid will have to cough up a hefty compo fee to Getafe coach Bernd Schuster if Fabio Capello remains in charge for next season.

Schuster was lined up by Real president Ramon Calderon to succeed Capello earlier this year, but with Capello's team now leading the Liga table, the prospect of the Italian departing is appearing more and more remote.

DiarioSport says Schuster has an agreement with Calderon that should he not be named Real coach by July 1, he will be due a cool £800,000.

Calderon still favours the German's appointment, but he is becoming increasingly isolated as the players thrive under Capello's leadership.

After so much uncertainty in recent years, Real sports director Pedja Mijatovic is adamant the Italian must continue and is working on convincing Calderon to stick with Capello, who still has two years to run on his contract.
