Real Madrid May Turn To Forlan If Villa Bid

While a large part of the football world is anxiously awaiting official confirmation of Kaka’s imminent switch to Real Madrid, the Spanish superpowers are reportedly planning a swoop for Pichichi and European Golden Shoe winner Diego Forlan.

Los Blancos, however, are still placing Valencia hitman David Villa high atop their shopping list, but there is speculation that newly re-elected president Florentino Perez is only willing to spend €35 million on ‘El Guaje’. And it would appear that the figure is not just a random number.

According to AS, Forlan’s buy-out clause at Atletico Madrid stands at €36 million and if Los Che demand any more than that amount for Villa, then the Merengues could opt to just pay out the Uruguayan’s contract and acquire him instead.

The paper, however, also believes that there is a certain level of hesitancy on Perez’s part, as the Colchoneros striker is already 30 years of age and is expected to only be at the very top of his game for another three to four years at best.  

Despite having access to exorbitant transfer funds, Madrid and Perez in particular have already stressed that they will not pay inflated prices for their targets like in previous seasons.

In fact, with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar very likely to be sold off, director general Jorge Valdano and sporting director Miguel Pardeza are hoping to cash in on the Dutch duo to help support their striker search.
