Real Madrid, Man Utd on outer as Juve approach Ajax about Chivu

Juventus are hoping to steal a march on rivals - including Manchester United - for Ajax wing-back Cristian Chivu.

The Romanian international is expected to attract bids from United, Real Madrid and AS Roma from the turn of the year ahead of a June transfer.

Chivu, Ajax's club captain, has the an affordable buyout clause of £12 million in his present deal.

Juve sports manager Luciano Moggi has already opened talks with Ajax about the exciting midfielder and like United and Real, the Italians are attracted as much to Chivu's leadership qualities and character as to his ability.
