Real Madrid: Makelele has signed for Chelsea

Chelsea are expected to announce the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Claude Makelele some time today.

The French international is moving to Stamford Bridge for around £17 million and Real sports director Jorge Valdano confirmed last night: "Some guarantees have to arrive on Sunday or by noon on Monday at the latest but otherwise the contracts have been signed."

Makelele agreed terms on a four-year contract with Chelsea officials on Friday.
