Real Madrid make contact with Villarreal's Riquelme

Real Madrid have been in contact with the agents of Juan Roman Riquelme.

Marca says Real have spoken with Marcos Franchi about the Villarreal midfielder's situation. Real intend to move for Riquelme should their bid for Arsenal youngster Cesc Fabregas come to nothing.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, are close to agreeing a fee with Villarreal for Riquelme, though Real's interest could delay the deal being rubberstamped.
