Real Madrid make Ballack prime galactico target

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is ready to battle Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer for Bayern Munich ace Michael Ballack.
 
Perez has decided that Ballack will be his galactico for season 2006/07, even if coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo is lukewarm over the Germany captain's arrival.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to make Ballack the highest paid player in Premiership history and also his new club captain after Friday's dramatic departure of Roy Keane.

But Perez has been encouraged by Ballack's comments that he rates European glory over wages and hopes to convince the German's representatives he has a better chance of fulfilling his ambitions in Madrid than Manchester.
