Real Madrid legend Gento backs underfire Raul

Real Madrid legend Paco Gento insists the club's current captain, Raul, can surpass his record of six European Cup winner medals.

"It would be very difficult for someone to reach my record," said the 71 year-old. "But if I had to nominate a player, it would be Raul."

"He already has won three European Cups and is still young. He can reach my six and then go past it."

On the debate surrounding the future of Raul, Gento added: "I don't understand it."

"He is a great player. Now he is going through a difficult period, but he's 27 years old and still has a lot to offer. His game is still improving and will always give his all for Real Madrid."

"For the stars, there is always criticism, but Raul will return again to his best."
