Real Madrid in Sociedad talks over Xabi

Real Madrid are in talks with Real Sociedad over midfielder Xabi Alonso.

The 22 year-old is being lined up by Madrid coach Jose Antonio Camacho to add steel to his midfield, which struggled last season following the departure of Claude Makelele to Chelsea.

Madrid and Sociedad enjoy a good relationship, though the San Sebastian club's £17 million valuation is regarded as too high.

Real Madrid are only prepared to offer £10 million, though Sociedad are expected to come round once they have finalised the signing of Mikel Arteta from Rangers.
