Real Madrid hero Redondo confirms retirement

Former Real Madrid and AC Milan midfielder Fernando Redondo has declared he is retiring from the game.

The Argentine has been playing semi-pro football in Madrid in order to keep fit and available for a possible return to professional ranks in Spain.

Redondo received an offer of a new contract from Milan in January, but refused it. He explained to AS: "I did not have any continuity from playing and for that reason I did not feel happy accepting it."

"There was also my family to consider. My second daughter was going to begin school and we wanted that her first year was done in Madrid. I received offers from Spain, England and Qatar, but it seemed unjust to me to move my family again."
