Real Madrid have a €425 million budget for new signings

Thursday’s edition of Diario AS tabloid has made a sensational claim on Real Madrid’s transfer market plans, suggesting that the reigning European champions have a budget of around €425 million for new signings.

The report comes just a few days after reports broke out over Kylian Mbappe’s desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain. The attacker is unhappy with the PSG board and wants to quit the club in the upcoming January transfer window.

Although PSG have no intention of offloading their star forward, the French outfit could be forced to sanction an exit if the player continues to hold out for a move away from Parc des Princes.

Real Madrid are the favourites to sign the Frenchman, valued at around €300-350 million. Such a figure would see him barely fit into the club’s budget if the report from Diario AS is to be believed.

While the links to Mbappe are growing, Erling Haaland is also said to be on the club’s agenda. He has a €200 million release clause in his Manchester City which can be triggered in 2024, something that will be well within the range of the Merengues with the €425 million budget.

Real Madrid’s increased budget comes in the midst of the club’s immense success under Carlo Ancelotti. The Whites notably secured the double last season and have started the new season exceptionally well. They are also one of the favourites to retain the Champions League title.

On the flip side, Real Madrid’s budget is unlikely to be solely reliant on the club’s sporting success. In fact, Los Blancos are expected to undergo a busy 2023 summer transfer window, with the club in contention to offload some of the star players, including Eden Hazard.

Their sales could help the club generate significant revenue. But whether or not that would be enough for the club to sign someone like Mbappe remains to be seen.
