Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has my full confidence – Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has offered his backing for out-of-form goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Last season, Navas impressed immensely en route to Champions League glory, as he shrugged off Madrid’s lengthy pursuit of Manchester United star David De Gea.

Indeed, he proved his status as the No.1 at the world’s biggest club was deserved by equalling a Champions League record, with nine clean sheets in 11 appearances.

However, the Costa Rica international has struggled this season, making high-profile mistakes against the likes of Valencia and Borussia Dortmund, while he also criticised for his role in this weekend’s 3-2 victory over Villarreal.

Zidane, though, has suggested that the 30-year-old will retain his place ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Las Palmas.

As reported by Los Blancos’ official website, the French tactician said: “He has my full confidence. There’ll always be criticism and pressure is inevitable."

“We have to focus on our work and give all our players our full confidence from here until the end of the season. I have full confidence in them.”

Zidane added, on his side’s propensity to concede early in each half: “We’re working on putting that right."

“We want it to happen as little as possible, although football is like that, you can work on things but you never know if you’re going to find a definitive solution because you’re always up against an opponent who’ll have their say.”

Madrid are aiming to maintain top spot in La Liga with a win over Las Palmas, as they hold a one-point lead over Barcelona, who face Sporting de Gijon on the same evening.
