Real Madrid General Director Jorge Valdano: It Will Be Difficult To Topple Barcelona

Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano has claimed that he is fully aware of the momentous effort required in order to displace Barcelona as Primera Division champions.

Los Blancos are aiming to stop the Blaugrana claiming three titles on the spin, and have once again bolstered their squad in order to attempt to overcome their arch rivals.

Speaking to Radio Marca, Valdano said of the season ahead: "It will be difficult to topple Barcelona because they play from memory. They have two of the world’s top players in Xavi and [Lionel] Messi."

"Last season there were many changes and this campaign has seen several new additions. We have had a total change in mentality."

Valdano also reiterated his stance that there will be no further additions before the end of the current transfer window, and added that in the attempted purchase of Maicon from Inter, price ultimately became the stumbling block.

He remarked: "There will be no more signings. If we need another striker, I have seen [Mesut] Oezil play there with [Werder] Bremen and Cristiano Ronaldo can also play there.

"In the case of Maicon, everything has a limit. From austerity, we can also make a great squad."
