Real Madrid forced back into market

Real Madrid chiefs are considering a late move in the winter market for a new striker.

Real sports director Pedja Mijatovic had put away his chequebook following the arrivals of Argie pair Fernando Gago and Gonzalo Higuain over the Christmas. But Saturday night's disappointing defeat at Villarreal has forced a rethink.

Mijatovic will discuss their options with president Ramon Calderon, fellow director Franco Baldini and coach Fabio Capello this morning. With an injury-list that includes Raul, Guti, Emerson, Marcelo and Cicinho, Real are already short of numbers.

The team's problem in front of goal is becoming an increasing concern which could lead to Real moving for a striker before Wednesday's transfer deadline.
