Real Madrid Fans Want Cannavaro Contract Renewal

The future of Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro is up in the air. The player's contract expires this summer and the upcoming presidential elections have stalled the negotiations.

AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Napoli, and Manchester City have all been linked with the Italian international, but it appears that several fans are interested in keeping him at the Bernabeu, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

A Madrid fan club will promote the collection of signatures for a petition during the match against the Valladolid at the Bernabeu, as well as at affiliated restaurants and bars, to extend his contract for another season.

"For his dedication, the results, his discipline, and Real Madrid - Cannavaro should continue," explained fan club president Jesus Morera.

The list of signatures will then be delivered to interim Real Madrid president Vicente Boluda, who will supposedly pass it on to whoever wins the election in the summer.

Napoli fans started something similar two weeks ago through a local radio station, collecting signatures in order to convince president Aurelio De Laurentiis to bring the 35-year-old back to his native Naples to finish his career.
