Real Madrid fans don't boo Bale - Buyo

The former Tottenham star, who joined the club from White Hart Lane in an £86 million deal in 2013 is not being singled out by supporters according to their former goalkeeper.

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Paco Buyo insists the club's supporters do not whistle Gareth Bale, they just show their unhappiness with his performances.

Bale enjoyed a fine debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2013-14, scoring vital goals in Copa del Rey and Champions League finals, but came under fire from a section of the club's fans in his second campaign amid reports that his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo had deteriorated.

The issue shows no sign of abating, however, and Bale was jeered during a friendly against Galatasaray last Monday.

Buyo, however, says the fans are just letting off steam: “I don’t think the supporters whistle Gareth Bale, sometimes they show their discomfort like they did in the Santiago Bernabeu trophy," he told Omnisport.

"I think Real Madrid supporters want Bale to show his quality and skills as a player. He is going to be important to Real Madrid's success."

Real have had to adapt to a new style following the appointment of Rafael Benitez, with the former Liverpool boss replacing the departed Carlo Ancelotti.

Bale has subsequently been deployed in a more central role, and Buyo believes that the Welshman can play a major role under the Spaniard's management. 

“It’s true he is playing in other position he was doing last seasons so he will have to get used to it. Real Madrid are changing their way of playing," he added.

"The preseason was really tough, so it’s normal Gareth Bale is not fit enough right now but I think he will be important with his skills helping the team to reach all the titles”

Bale scored 17 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions last season.
