Real Madrid Eyeing Anderlecht Midfielder Stoica

Anderlecht director Michel Verschueren has confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in the Belgian club’s 21-year-old Romanian midfielder Alin Stoica.

"Real Madrid have not been in contact with us, but certain very reliable sources have told me that Stoica’s Champions League performances have piqued the Spanish club’s interest,” said Verschueren.

Stoica is widely considered to be one of the most promising young footballers in Europe, but he is not first-choice at Anderlecht because coach Aimé Anthuenis considers him too much of an individualist.

Thus, it’s likely that Anderlecht would accept a good offer for the player’s services, despite the fact that Stoica is contracted to the Belgian club until 2002.
