Real Madrid have been busy of late, working to secure the futures of some of their most important players in the squad.
Long-term renewal agreements have been reached with the midfield duo of Arda Guler and Jude Bellingham recently after Vinicius Jr.’s contract was extended during the summer.
Beyond that, the Spanish capital heavyweights have also reached an agreement with Thibaut Courtois to extend his deal with the club for one more year until 2028.
Building on that, Fabrizio Romano now states that documents are already being exchanged between Courtois’ lawyers and the Real Madrid camp, with only the final signature now being left.
The Belgian veteran joined the Spanish giants from Chelsea in the summer of 2018 and has grown into one of the most important players in the team.
During his time at the club, the 34-year-old shot-stopper has racked up 344 appearances in all competitions, keeping 131 clean sheets.
In that time, he has won three La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies, along with several other titles.
Despite having had to deal with some physical issues in the latter stages of his career, Courtois is still going very strong and remains one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.
At 34 years old, the Belgian still has plenty left to offer at the highest level and he continues to showcase just that week in week out with the Merengues.
Therefore, the one-year renewal from Real Madrid does not come as a surprise whatsoever, with a verbal agreement reached and documents now being exchanged.
So far in the ongoing season, Courtois has played in all 11 games for Real Madrid this season, but has managed only two clean sheets, while letting in 13 goals.
While the search for a long-term successor might already be taking place in the background, Real Madrid have moved to renew Courtois’ contract by one more season, with only the official signing on paper being left pending.
