Real Madrid demand Chelsea prove they haven't approached Makelele

Real Madrid sports chief Jorge Valdano has demanded Chelsea show they have not "unsettled or approached" midfielder Claude Makelele.

Valdano said: "Chelsea suddenly have lots of new cash and their new owner seems to believe that money solves everything."

"But Chelsea are not in charge of this situation and if their owner thinks that money is the answer to the problem then he is quite wrong."

However, despite these demands, Valdano also agreed that he expects to "welcome directors from Chelsea" next week to discuss Makelele's situation.

"We are a courteous club and we will always open our doors to other respectful people," added Valdano.
