Real Madrid defender Ramos welcomes Beckenbauer comparison

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos is pleased with comparisons with Franz Beckenbauer.

Ramos has been a revelation this season at centre-half.

"I see it as a great honour that people are comparing me to Beckenbauer. He is one of the greatest players in history. He has set the standard for centre-backs and is a reference for me," Ramos told Marca.

"I am very happy with the way things are going. I'm in great shape physically at the moment. It's a bit of a mixture of several things. I'm physically and mentally fine and have matured a lot both on and off the pitch."
