Real Madrid centre-back Pepe has suffered an injury during the Spanish giants' 3-2 comeback victory over LA Galaxy in their final pre-season game in the US on Saturday evening, the club has announced.
Madrid came from 2-0 down in the first half, scoring three goals in the second session to end their US tour on a winning note. However, it now seems that los Blancos' win may have come at a price, as defender Pepe has suffered an injury.
The Portuguese international came on for fellow centre-back Raul Albiol at the start of the second half and played for the remainder of the match. But Madrid have revealed that the player has sustained an injury.
A statement on the Spanish club's official website reads:
"Kepler Laveran Lima Ferreira, 'Pepe', finished the match against the LA Galaxy with discomfort on his left soleus and has possibly sustained an injury. Further tests are pending."
The 27-year-old missed much of the 2009-10 season for Madrid with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee but recovered in time to feature in the 2010 World Cup finals for Portugal.
