Real Madrid defeats Tokyo in exhibition; Barcelona downs Kashima

Brazilian striker Ronaldo scored one goal and assisted on another Sunday in Real Madrid's 4-0 rout of Japan's Tokyo Verde in an exhibition game.

The club is one of three Spanish teams on a weeklong tour of Japan.

Zinedine Zidane scored the first goal in the 8th minute off a feed from Ronaldo. Real Madrid extended the lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute on Ronaldo's flick past goalkeeper Yoshinari Takagi after an assist from David Beckham.

Real Madrid also got a goal from Luis Figo in the 77th minute and scored again three minutes later on Fernando Morientes' easy touch-in at the right post.

The game was played before 49,500 spectators, many wearing Real Madrid colors.

In the other exhibition games, Abirex Niigata beat Spanish club Falencia, 5-2 and FC Barcelona shut out Kashima Antlers, 5-0.

The teams were in Japan as a tuneup for the start of the Union of European Football Associations Champions League, which begins Aug. 29. Figo said Real Madrid accomplished what it came for.

"With each passing day, we have been steadily improving," Figo said.
