Real Madrid convinced they can sign Inter Milan's Cannavaro for knockdown fee

Real Madrid are being linked with Inter Milan defender Fabio Cannavaro.

Sports chief Jorge Valdano has come under pressure from coach Carlos Queiroz in recent weeks over the lack of defensive options his squad currently possess.

Cannavaro is one of several Serie A-based defenders on Real's shortlist, which also include Lazio's Jaap Stam and Juventus veteran Paolo Montero.

Real believe that with the depressed transfer market, they can land Cannavaro for less than £12 million.
