Real Madrid confirm Chelsea approach for Ronaldo

Chelsea and Real Madrid are forming a strong relationship following the transfer of midfielder Geremi to the London club.

During negotiations, Real sports director Jorge Valdano and Chelsea's Russian owner Roman Abramovich spoke about building a strong relationship between the two clubs.

For that reason, Real were happy yesterday to reveal that Chelsea's apparent £72 million bid for Raul was never made.

Instead, the Spanish giants confirmed that Abramovich enquired about Brazilian star Ronaldo, but was politely told that the striker was not for sale.
