Real Madrid confident over Man Utd, Chelsea targets Figo, Roberto Carlos

Real Madrid sports chief Jorge Valdano has laughed off reports linking Luis Figo to Chelsea and Manchester United.

"Figo is sending daily messages to all the mass media making clear that he wants to remain with Real Madrid," said Valdano.

"We understand that he is a positive for us in the planning of next year and hope that he fulfills his contract."

Asked about Chelsea's move for Roberto Carlos, Valdano replied: "Roberto Carlos is going to re-sign with Real Madrid."

"I have spoken today with him because he wanted me to explain things to him. We are talking and it's unnecessary to do this through the media."
