Real Madrid confident of resisting Man Utd offers for Casillas

Real Madrid are confident of resisting any offer from Manchester United for goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to be happy to pay Spain's No1 shot-stopper £75,000 a week to solve his goalkeeping problems.

Casillas, 23, is one of Real's lowest-paid stars on £30,000 a week and Madrid are stalling on a new contract as he has a season left on his deal.

But Real vice-president Emilio Butragueno is confident Casillas, who is having English lessons, will stay.

He said: "He is a fundamental player. There is time to sort out his future. That is our intention."
