Real Madrid confident of prising Wenger away from Arsenal

Real Madrid are confident that they can sign Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Wenger held a four-hour long meeting with Real president Florentino Perez and sports chief Jorge Valdano last Friday.

Madrid insiders have told the Daily Mirror that Perez and Wenger have concluded a "gentleman's agreement" for the Frenchman to take over next season.

A decision either way is expected from Wenger by June 10.

Real are said to have offered a two-year contract with an extra 12-month option, and a salary of £2.2 million per year after tax.

The only sticking point for Wenger, according to Madrid sources, is interference from Valdano - who has final say on all Real transfer activity.
