Real Madrid confident beating Man Utd for Benzema today

Real Madrid could clinch the signing of Lyon ace Karim Benzema as early as today.

Marca says a deal to bring the French striker to Madrid is now just a step away, despite the intense interest of Manchester United.

Real have made an improved bid of £35 million for Benzema, up from their previous £30 million offer, and are confident of agreement. After initially demanding £40 million, Lyon are now ready to accept Real's latest bid.

Benzema is back in Lyon today to prepare for preseason training, which kicks off on Thursday.
