Real Madrid completing the final details for the signing of 17-goal striker

Having completed the signings of Fran Garcia and Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid are inching closer to finalising another transfer, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Indeed, as per the Italian transfer expert, Real Madrid are completing the final details to secure the signing of 33-year-old striker Joselu from RCD Espanyol.

The Spanish capital giants have had an agreement on personal terms with their former centre-forward for more than ten days. And they are now hoping to finalise his signing by next week.

Having lost Karim Benzema and Mariano Diaz in the summer, Real Madrid are left without a senior striker in their ranks ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Merengues are planning on making a superstar addition to reinforce the No. 9 slot, with the likes of Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe being linked heavily.

At the same time, Los Blancos also remain keen on adding a backup option for the centre-forward role and have zeroed in on Joselu as the option.

The 33-year-old enjoyed a fine 2022/23 season with Espanyol, finishing with 17 goals and four assists from 38 matches in all competitions. But, with the Catalan club getting relegated, the striker is now set to depart, and has already dropped hints about a move to Real Madrid.

In a recent interview, Joselu said: "Any player on the planet would like to wear the Real Madrid shirt. It is the best team in the world."

Now, Romano reports that Real Madrid are working to finalise the transfer by next week and are completing the last details to get the transfer across the line.

Even though he is 33 years old, Joselu enjoyed a fine campaign in 2022/23 and has looked good for Spain in recent appearances. The striker even scored the match-winner for La Roja in the UEFA Nations League semi-final against Italy last night.

The former Real Madrid striker could thus be a good addition as a backup option in the centre-forward role for Carlo Ancelotti & co.
