Real Madrid coaches confident Figo can play with Joaquin

The potential arrival of Joaquin from Real Betis does not mean the end of Luis Figo's career at Real Madrid.

Madrid insiders say that the coaching staff are convinced Joaquin and Figo can thrive in the same team, just as the Portuguese ace has adjusted to playing alongside David Beckham in Real's midfield this season.

It's understood Betis president Manuel Ruiz de Lopera has told Real supremo Florentino Perez that he will have first refusal on Joaquin in the event the Spanish winger is put up for sale.

Perez is convinced he will land Joaquin sooner rather than later and interestingly has sought Roberto Carlos' advice on the player.

A bid in the region of £15 million plus a player in exchange could be enough for Real to land Joaquin, who also is emerging as a prime summer target for Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, for all their spending power, both Premiership clubs will begin a step behind Real if-and-when Joaquin becomes available.
