Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster is chasing Olympique Lyon striker Fred.

DiarioSport says the Brazil international is a priority target for Schuster ahead of the January market, despite sports director Pedja Mijatovic being lukewarm on the idea.

Schuster was forced to back down over his pursuit of Real Zaragoza striker Diego Milito in the summer and isn't prepared to do so again for the winter market - with Fred his top choice to boost his squad for the second-half of the season.
