Real Madrid coach pleased with Beckham debut

David Beckham made a successful debut for Real Madrid yesterday in their 4-0 defeat of China Dragons.

The England skipper played 72 minutes and enjoyed a fine game, having two free-kicks go close.

"I enjoyed myself and felt very comfortable considering it was my first competitive game," he said.

"This is due to the other Real Madrid players who have done everything they could to make me feel part of the set-up since the day we joined up for pre-season training."

Real trainer Carlos Queiroz said, "In the first-half he was preoccupied with doing a lot of chasing back and team-oriented things."

"He had a very good second-half. He took risks and was impressive. In summary, he played very well for the team."
