Real Madrid Coach Pellegrini Remains Optimistic Over Liverpool's Alonso

Manuel Pellegrini has again hinted that the Spanish giants would be interested in bringing Xabi Alonso to the Bernabeu.

The Liverpool midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to Madrid throughout the summer and it would seem that Pellegrini has not given up hope of luring the 27-year-old to Spain.

While the Chilean coach has admitted he is an admirer of the Euro 2008 winning star, he stopped short of claiming that a deal was in place and acknowledges that the former Real Sociedad ace remains a Liverpool player.

"All we know is that he is a very good player. We don't know what is happening with him," Pellegrini told Sky Sports News.

"He is now a player with Liverpool, so we will see what will happen in the future."

"He is a very good player. But I cannot speak about players who are not at Real Madrid now."
