Real Madrid chief Sacchi: Man Utd's Ferdinand not a target

Real Madrid general manager Arrigo Sacchi has denied interest in Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.
 
Ferdinand, 26, has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu after a lengthy delay in signing a new £100,000-a-week contract.

Real were reportedly monitoring the situation and preparing a multi-million pound bid for the England defender.

But Sacchi insisted: "Ferdinand is a great player but he is not in our plans. We are concentrating on other necessities for the team."

"Among other things, he belongs to another club and it is not our policy to work on those players."
