Real Madrid chief Butrageno: Figo situation similar to my end

Real Madrid vice-president Emilio Butragueno has likened Luis Figo's situation to his own in the final days of his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"I can relate to Figo's situation, because something similar happened to me," said Butragueno. "When Jorge Valdano came in, as coach, he decided to leave me out because he believed he had found a better player for my position - and that was Raul."

Butragueno added: "There's no point talking about Figo's future. He still has a year left on his contract and things can change in one or two games."

"He's unhappy being on the bench, but he's a good pro and only wants what's best for Real Madrid."
