Real Madrid centre-back Pavon out of Marseille match

Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz will have to reshuffle his defence for this week's Champions League Group F match at Olympique Marseille because of an injury to centre-back Francisco Pavon.

The 23-year-old, who has been a fixture in the Real defence this season, was left out of the squad after straining a muscle in his right leg during his side's 2-1 victory over Albacete at the Bernabeu on Sunday.

Ivan Helguera and Raul Bravo are likely to form a new pairing in the centre of defence against the French side in Wednesday's match.

A further worry for Queiroz is that Portugal winger Luis Figo is doubtful after suffering a minor ankle strain in training on Monday, although he will travel with the squad.

The good news for the Real coach is that Brazilian fullback Roberto Carlos has been included in the squad after recovering from a thigh strain sustained in the goalless draw against Partizan Belgrade three weeks ago.

Real, who lead Group F with 10 points from four matches, have already secured a berth in the last 16 of the competition but with Portuguese side Porto only three points adrift first place is yet to be decided.
