Real Madrid board to discuss Sacchi appointment today

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will hold a board meeting today to discuss the appointment of Arrigo Sacchi as the club's new general manager.

The new position has been created by Perez specifically for Sacchi, who agreed terms with the Real Madrid supremo in Rome over the weekend.

The deal will be rubberstamped by Real's board today and could be announced this afternoon, though Sacchi has indicated nothing will be made official until after Christmas.

"I will be delighted to comment more on this if something takes shape, but at the moment... at the moment it is important to hope and to be respectful. I cannot speak of Madrid because I cannot speak of things that have still not happened," insisted Sacchi, who remains contracted at Parma as technical director.
