Real Madrid blast reports of Chelsea's Roberto Carlos deal

Real Madrid sports director Jorge Valdano has rubbished reports that an offer has arrived from Chelsea for Roberto Carlos.

Valdano was forced to react to reports that the Brazilian international was quoted on BBC Brazil that he "will leave", with it being suggested he had received a £6 million-a-year contract from Chelsea for four years - two more than what Real have offered him.

"I cannot be more certain," said Valdano. "Neither Roberto Carlos, or his agent, have been here."

"If a player wants to leave, who still has a year left on his contract, then any interested club must approach Real Madrid."
