Real Madrid Believed To Be Targeting Joaquin

Real Madrid are believed to be targeting Real Betis' young star Joaquin Sanchez, although the Spaniard wouldn't join the European champions until next season.

Spanish daily 'AS' report that Real are conscious that other European clubs, including Barcelona, are keeping tabs on the right winger and the European Champions may move to tie up his services for next year.

He may be seen as a replacement to Portuguese superstar Luis Figo and on the basis of Joaquin's World Cup performances he is certainly worthy of filling Figo's boots.

The 20-year-old was named Spain's best player of the World Cup despite him missing the crucial penalty against South Korea.

Betis have Joaquin tied down to the club until 2006 and despite being on poor terms the youngster has recently rejected a new deal that would run until 2010.
