Real Madrid become the highest revenue-generating football club eclipsing Manchester City

A recent financial report released by Deloitte has affirmed that Real Madrid added a record-breaking revenue during the 2022/23 season.

Every year, Deloitte releases a Football Money League which happens to be a detailed case study of the annual profile of the highest revenue-generating clubs in world football.

Interestingly enough, the total revenue generated by the top 20 clubs reached a whopping €10.5 billion, which is a 14% increase over the previous year.

According to the report, Real Madrid earned €831.4 million, the most by any team in the world and the Los Blancos were closely followed by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who had an income of €825.9 million.

“Real Madrid have eclipsed Manchester City to become the highest-revenue-generating football club in 2022/23 for the first time since 2017/18,” read a statement from Deloitte.

“Real Madrid recorded record revenues of €831 million, an increase of €118 million compared to last year. The club’s growth can largely be attributed to strong retail performance and increased stadium attendance following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions,” it added.

Furthermore, Paris Saint-Germain are now in third place for the first time, having a total of €801.8 million. Barcelona moved up to fourth place with €800.1 million. The Blaugrana made a big improvement, going from seventh place to fourth in the ranking.

It is to be noted that unlike previous years, Real Madrid have altered their transfer policy a big time. In that regard, their biggest spend last summer was Jude Bellingham, who cost them an initial fee of €103 million.

Despite that spending, though, their net spending in player transfers since 2014 is still considerably less than the likes of Manchester United, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG and even Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United for that matter.
