Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico already removed from La Liga table on Real Betis' website

Football has been torn apart by the news that 12 elite European clubs are looking to break away and start their own competition, including La Liga's Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have all been removed from the La Liga table on Real Betis' website.

It comes just hours after the three clubs all announced they are looking to start a new European Super League.

As well as Spain's biggest clubs, nine other will be joining them - including six from the Premier League.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are also involved, as are Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan.

There has been a huge uproar as a result of their actions, not least from the regulators of UEFA themselves.

They have threatened to boot the 12 clubs out of all future European competitions and ban their players from international duty.

The Premier League has also responded angrily, insisting they will not give the six clubs the permission they need to play in their new tournament.

It means United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham will all have to officially leave the Premier League.

And the reaction appears to be the same in Spain where Real Betis have taken matters into their own hands.

On their website, they have struck off Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico from their table.
