Real Madrid arrive in Hong Kong on latest leg of Asia tour

Real Madrid arrived in Hong Kong on the latest leg of their money-spinning pre-season tour of Asia.

The Spanish champions were mobbed by fans at the former British colony's Chek Lap Kok International airport after touching down from Tokyo before being whisked to a luxury hotel in the city's Wanchai red-light district.

But fans anxious for a glimpse of England skipper and new signing David Beckham were left disappointed after Real abrubtly cancelled a scheduled evening training session at the 40,000-capacity Hong Kong Stadium.

Instead, Portuguese international Luis Figo, Brazil's Roberto Carlos and Spaniard Michel Salgado appeared at a brief press conference where reporters were not allowed to ask questions.

"We are delighted to be in Hong Kong and we hope that we can put on a good performance for our fans," Figo said.

Real, who have been reportedly been paid around 20 million Hong Kong dollars (2.5 million US) to appear in the territory, play a Hong Kong select side bolstered by a handful of Chinese internationals on Friday night.

The final leg of their tour is a match against Thailand's national team on Sunday.
